2010 STDMFL All-Star Team Announced

 

     The St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League has selected their 20 All-Stars for this year's version of the STDMFL All-Star Game in Alvinston, versus last year's playoff champions, the Alvinston Indians.  Game time is 7:30pm in Alvinston, next Thursday, July 15, and as always it will be a 9 inning game, to display the league's talent.  The bolded players listed below, were voted in as the starter's for the game, through the All-Star voting process.  Here is this year's STDMFL All-Star Team:

Indians Win at Home in Playoff Opener

 

     The Alvinston Indians opened up the first game of their best 2/3 St. Thomas & District Major Fastball league Playoff schedule, with a 3-1 win over the Belmont Brewers. 
 
     Belmont scored first in the opening inning, but Young shut the door the rest of the night, allowing 4 hits the rest of the way.  Young tossed the entire game, allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits, he allowed 1 walk, while strikeing out 6, to earn the win.
 
     Joe Triest tripled in the bottom of the first to lead off the game, but the Indians failed to score him, as they were down 1-0 early.  They went right back to work in the bottom half of the second off of Brewers starter Chad Hargrove, when Tom Jobson led off with a triple, and scored on a 1 out RBI single by Andy Triest.  After Triest stole second base, he was driven in by Joe Triest, in what turned out to be the game winning run and RBI.  Alvinston added one more controversial run off Belmont relief pitcher Shaun Winship, in the bottom of the third inning, when Scott Smith was ruled safe at home.
 
     Winship drove in the lone run for Belmont, while Keenan Haight was 2/4 for Belmont in the game.  Belmont threatened in the 7th, but left the bases loaded.  Scott Smith was 2/2 for Alvinston with a walk, double, and a run scored.  Joe Triest was 2/4 with a triple and game winning RBI single.  Andy Triest was 1/2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run.
 
     Game 2 of the series goes next Wednesday evening in Belmont, beginning at 8pm.

Indians Advance to Semi Finals

 

     On Wed night to Alvinston Indians travelled to Belmont for game 2 of the best of 3 up 1 game to none. The game turned out to be a pitchers dual with Brad Young for the Indians going against Shaun Winship for Belmont,  The game remained scoreless until the Indians scored a run in the top of the 6th inning with a Steve Donald bunt single, then a Chris Drew Sac bunt,  and a RBI Single by Ryan Chapman to make it 1-0, the Indians would strike again in the top of the 7th with a Brad Young solo HR to make it 2-0 which proved to be enough for the win.
 
 Brad Young allowed  5 hits while striking out 7
 Shaun Winship Allowed 7 hits with 12 Strikeouts
 
     The Indians will now play a best of 3 semifinal series beginning on the 22nd of August or later after returning from the ISC World Tourney in Midland,  Michigan where they play Careys Allstate Sat Aug 14th @ 4 pm in Midland if they win that game they will play Sunday the 16th at 4 pm  vs Kegal Black Knights from Fargo ND .

             Storm Take Game 1

 

     The St. Thomas Storm took game 1 of the best of 3 semi final vs Shedden, 4-1 on Tuesday night in Fingal.
Shedden took the early lead when Dan Hutchings hit an RBI double that scored Curtis Cornelius who had also doubled off Storm pitcher Ryan Cummings.  However that was all the offense that the Mission could muster as Cummings only allowed one 7th inning single the rest of the game.

     St. Thomas scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning when Matt Lynch led off with a single and later scored on Chris Wismer's sac fly followed by a Chris Payne rbi single. The Storm added 2 more runs in the 5th when Wismer hit an RBI single and scored himself on an errant throw to 2nd base in an attempt to catch him advancing.
Cummings was solid in going the distance for the Storm. He allowed 3 hits, 3 bases on balls and struck out 10.
Nick Goetz suffered the loss, also going the distance, allowing 7 hits, 1 walk and striking out 5.

     Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday night at 8pm in Fingal.

Magic Take Game 1

 

     The Alvinston Indians played in front of a strong crowd on Friday evening, but the Morpeth Magic left with a 3-2 win in nine innings.  Greg Guy drove in the winning run for Morpeth, while he was also the winning pitcher on the mound, throwing a great game.  Game 2 is set for Monday in Morpeth at 8:00pm.

Storm Advance to Finals

 

     St. Thomas Storm eliminated the Shedden Mission Thursday night in the STDMFL semi finals. The Storm won game 2 by a score of 8-0, ending the game by way of the mercy rule after 5innings.  St. Thomas put the game out of reach with a 5 run 2nd inning - hi-lighted by Chris Wismer's 3 run inside the park homerun and two batters later - Brent Crocker's 2 run blast.  Crocker ended up with 3 hits and 3 RBI along with 2 runs scored.

     Ryan Cummings once again was dominant on the mound for the Storm, striking out 10 Shedden batters and only allowing 2 hits.  Jason Dawdy suffered the loss, giving up 8 hits, 2 bases on balls and 2 Ks.

     St. Thomas now awaits the winner of the other semi final between Alvinston and Morpeth. The Magic are up 1 game to none over the Indians with game 2 in Morpeth on Monday night.  The league final with most likely begin on Tuesday September 7th in Fingal.

Alvinston Forces Game 3

 

     Last evening, the Alvinston Indians travelled to Morpeth with the hopes of evening their semi-final series.  They did just that winning 8-0.  Brad Young was the winning pitcher for Alvinston, while Greg Guy took the loss.  Joe Triest led off the game with a homer, and Jeff Ingram hit a two run blast as well for the Indians.  Game 3 is Tuesday in Alvinston at 8:00pm.   

Morpeth Advances to Finals

 

     The series continued with the visiting team being the victors again on Tuesday night in game 3 of the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League semi-final.  The Morpeth Magic advanced to the league final with a 4-0 shutout win.  Kyle Vink's two-run home run in the second inning got Morpeth going, after Alvinston left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first without scoring.  They added another run in the third and one more in the fifth.  Joe Triest, Andy Triest, and Greg Fowler had the only Alvinston hits, in Greg Guy's strong performance on the mound for Morpeth, as he collected the win and shutout the Indians.  Brad Young suffered the loss on the mound for Alvinston, while John Ferguson kept Morpeth off the scoreboard when he entered in relief.   

     All-in-all it was a strong season for the Alvinston Indians, who finished with a 45-14-1 record on the season, in 60 games of play.  Highlights of the season included their ninth place finish at the World's, and their Frankenmuth, tournament win .
