INDIANS COMEBACK AT HOME
The Alvinston Indians opened up their 2012 campaign last Thursday at home versus St. Thomas, but their home opener could not be completed due to the weather. Tonight they got their first Home game in, as the Springfield Brewers came to town.
The game remained a tight affair through three innings, before the Springfield Brewers touched up Indians starting pitcher Kyle Crawford for two runs in the top of the fourth inning. A lead off walk, followed by a sac bunt, and then an RBI double, created the first run, while the second run came in on a wild pitch. Alvinston was not able to muster much offence off of Springfield starter Shaun Winship, until the fifth inning, when the Indians finally touched the scoreboard. Jeff Lyons reached base via an infield single, stole second base, and then scored on an RBI single by Aaron Stocking, to cut the deficit to 2-1. Tom Jobson went in to pinch hit, and his a tricky bunt over the pitcher to single, putting runners on first and second. Andy Triest then came to the plate, and loaded the bases with an infield single, before Joe Triest hit a funky single, that scored Stocking from third base to tie the game. Jamie Shields put the Indians in the lead, as he hit a sacrifice fly to centre field, scoring Jobson from third base. Chris Drew then reached base via an error to load the bases for Brad Young, who had the big hit doubling into the gap to score both Triest's and Drew, for a 6-2 lead.
Starting pitcher Kyle Crawford went 5 strong innings for Alvinston, allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits, with 3 walks, and 8 strikeouts, and he earned the win, as the Indians scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fifth to get him the win. Brad Young came in to pitch for Alvinston in the sixth and seventh innings, allowing no hits and no runs, while striking out 1. Shaun Winship threw effectively for Springfield, but suffered the loss.
Alvinston is now 2-0 on the season, and do not play again until next Thursday night at home, versus the Glanworth Gators, at 8:00pm. Joe Triest led Alvinston by going 2/3, with two singles, a run scored, and 1 RBI. |

INDIANS WIN ON THE ROAD
The Alvinston Indians traveled to Glanworth on Sunday, May 6, to play the Glanworth Gators, in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League play.
Alvinston scored a couple of runs early, and then added to their lead much later in the game. In the second, they scored their first run when Jeff Lyons singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Stocking. In the third, Alvinston added another run, when Eric Hyatt reached base via an error, was sacrificed to second by Tom Jobson, and then scored on an RBI double by Chris Drew.
With a 2-0 lead, Brad Young did his work on the mound for the Indians, as he pitched 5 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits with 2 strikeouts, before turning things over to reliever Jeff Lyons in the sixth and seventh innings. Lyons went two innings, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, 3 hits, and 1 walk.
In the sixth inning for Alvinston, Young led off with a single, Jeff Ingram walked, and Lyons singled to load the bases, for Stocking who doubled for Alvinston to score all three runners. Eric Hyatt then followed and clubbed a two-run homerun, as the Indians scored 5 runs in the sixth inning, for a 7-0 lead at the time. Glanworth then scored three runs to make the score 7-3, before Alvinston added one more run, when Drew singled, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Jeff Lyons.
The final score was Alvinston 8, Glanworth 3. Brad Young was the winning pitcher for Alvinston. Jobson was 2/3 for the Indians, while Lyons was 3/3 for the Indians with a walk. INDIANS DEFEAT GLANWORTH AT HOME
The Alvinston Indians welcomed the Glanworth Gators to town on Thursday night, for their second meeting of the season. Alvinston was able to defeat Glanworth, in their first and only road game to date, by the final score of 8-3. On this evening, it would prove to be much of the same, as Alvinston's offence was too much.
The Indians sent young right hander Jeff Lyons to the mound, and the Gators were able to get to him early, scoring a run in the first inning, after a lead off walk came around to score. But Alvinston answered big time in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs. The big hit was a three run homerun by Aaron Stocking, while Doug Charlton and Brady Davenport drove in the two other runs in the opening inning. Joe Triest, Chris Drew, Charlton, Stocking, and Lyons all scored runs.
The bats then went dead for several innings for Alvinston, but that was not the case in several innings for Glanworth, but they just couldn't cash their runners in. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Alvinston went to work in a big way. Andy Triest and Joe Triest led off the inning with singles, and then A. Triest scored on an RBI single by Jamie Shields up the middle. Drew then reached base on an error to load the bases, and Charlton followed by clubbing a double into the left field corner, that scored J. Triest, Shields, and Drew, for a 9-1 mercy win for the Indians.
Jeff Lyons was the winning pitcher for the Indians tossing 6 innings of 1 run ball. Lyons allowed 5 walks, but only one hit, and struck out 5 Glanworth swingers.
Alvinston improved to 3-0 on the season, but have a tough task tomorrow night, as they head to Morpeth for a 8:00pm fixture with the Morpeth Magic. |
