ALVINSTON INDIANS 2011 PREVIEW

The Alvinston Indians are excited for the upcoming 2011 season.  The team remains strong, with a solid core of veteran players, as well as a group of developing young studs, that help the team remain youthful and exciting going forward.

On the mound, Point Edward native Brad Young returns yet again, and he represents the ace of the pitching staff.  Veteran hurlers John Ferguson and Doug Charlton are returning to the mound in 2011, and provide unmatched experience on the mound.  The Indians hope young pitcher Kyle Crawford can take the next step and begin to establish himself as a pitcher in the St. Thomas League, and pitch more innings in 2011.  Jeff Lyons and Travis Pavey represent the future, as both may see some innings, and they provide the Indians with insurance arms, to give us a complete pitching staff.

Long-time Indians catcher Scott Smith has called it a career, and has decided to retire.  After catching 500 career games in an Indians uniform, the veteran has called it a career, and his leadership and catching abilities will be dearly missed.   That however, opens the door for young catchers Jamie Shields, Tom Jobson, and rookie Patrick Saunders, to begin taking the reigns behind the plate for the Indians.

Around the infield, the Indians will return the same starters in 2011.  Jeff Ingram, Joe Triest, Aaron Stocking, Steve Donald, and Chris Drew will get the majority of the time in the infield for Alvinston, with Ryan Chapman likely to see more time at first base this season.  Youngsters Davis Triest, and Brady Davenport may also see some time in the infield.

In the outfield, Andy Triest will patrol centerfield, while he’ll be flanked by Eric Hyatt, and promising newcomer Chris Sheppard.  Tim Brown is also returning, while several others could see time in the outfield grass, but that is up to Coach Gary Wren, and Manager Paul McCart.

The Indians have several other youngsters at their disposal on the Alvinston Jr. Indians Midget team that might be called into action throughout the season.  The Alvinston Indians hope to finish in the top half in the league standings, and return to the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League Finals in 2011.
